JAKARTA - Twitter's rebranding platform, X is working to combat bots by introducing new identity verification elements (IDs).

In a screenshot shared by application researcher Nima Owji, the new verification feature being worked on by X comes months after rampant impersonation of identity on the platform.

This feature requires users to upload copies of their Identity Card (KTP) and take selfies.

In fact, Owji saw a Verified ID badge on Elon Musk's X-owner profile earlier this month, and now he's found a message in an app detailing how it works.

"Verification of your account by providing the ID issued by the government. (This feature) usually takes about five minutes," said Owji.

#X keeps working on the ID verification. You should upload a photo of your ID and take a live selfie. https://t.co/3bdGgzlnZh pic.twitter.com/F4ssglakHR

To make the feature work optimally, X is seen cooperating with third-party identity intelligence firm Au10tix, which has also collaborated with companies such as Google, PayPal and Uber.

Later, user information shared for verification will be seen by Au10tix and X. Then, the social media will store up to 30 copies of ID, biometric data, and information will be used for user safety and security purposes, which prevent imitation of identity.

Cited from Engadget, Friday, August 18, X currently offers verified status to anyone who pays for the X Premium subscription (previously known as Twitter Blue).

Although the microblogging site did not check its own identity, it turns out that many imitators still managed to escape, especially crypto fraudsters who used additional visibility equipped with premium X subscriptions to increase their posts.
