JAKARTA - During the 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple announced its latest privacy and security innovations, including major updates to the Personal Explore of Safari, Communication Security, and Lockdown Mode, as well as increased application privacy.

This new effort is the latest embodiment of Apple's deep belief that privacy is a human right and that good privacy is built on a solid security basis.

"Privacy was designed into every new Apple product and feature from the start. We focused on keeping our users in the driver's seat when it comes to their data by continuing to provide the best industry and data security features in the world," Craig Federighi, senior vice president of Apple's Software Engineering in a statement.

The following are updates and improvements to Apple's security systems announced during WWDC 2023:

Updates For Personal Exploration Safari

With this update, this year Apple provides protection as users explore the web with advanced tracking protection and fingerprints. Thus, Personal Exploration is now locked when unused, allowing users to keep tabs open even as they move away from the device.

Improved Photo Privacy Permits

When the app asks to access the entire user photo library, users will be shown more information about what they will share, along with a reminder of their choice occasionally.

Tracking Protection Links in Messages, Mail, and Personal Exploration Safari

Some websites add additional information to their URLs to track users on other websites. With this update, now that information will be removed from links shared by users in Messages and Mail, and the link will still work as expected.

Improve Application Privacy

This change also increases the integrity of the software supply chain by supporting signatures for the practice of third-party software development kit data (SDK) to add other layers of protection against abuse.

Security Communication Security Communications Security Communications

Apple's new API will allow developers to integrate Communication Security directly into their apps. In addition, this feature will now help children stay safe when they send and receive AirDrop, FaceTime video messages, and when using the Phone app to receive Contact Posters and Photo voters to select the content to be sent.

Sensitive Content Warning

Sensitive content helps adult users avoid seeing unwanted nude images and videos when receiving them on Messages, AirDrop, FaceTime video messages, and Call apps when receiving Contact Posters, all using the same privacy guard technology at the Communication Safety core. This feature is optional and can be enabled by users in Privacy & Security settings.
