JAKARTA - SpaceX is currently preparing to launch its Starship mega rocket on its first orbital flight test mission, but when will this historic event take place?

Starship consists of two parts, the top-stage Super Heavy and Starship boosters with a height of 120 meters who are currently standing tall at the Starbase SpaceX facility in Boca Chica, Texas, United States (US).

The spacecraft was originally scheduled to be launched today at 8 am EDT or 19.00 WIB with a lift-off time of 150 minutes, if the weather is favorable.

The flight included an orbital test by trying to send Starship in one round around Earth, for 90 minutes, culminating in a landing in the Pacific Ocean near Kauai Island in Hawaii.

Meanwhile, NASA is claimed to have backed up the use of the WB-57 high altitude aircraft for observations of the Starship test flight.

This is because the first test flight aims as a fully reusable launch system for missions to the Moon and Mars in SpaceX and NASA cooperation agreements.

SpaceX itself has won a contract of nearly $3 billion from the space agency in 2021, for the project.

However, Elon Musk's company cannot be complacent, he has to perfect his design, which will help with this first flight test.

In February, SpaceX completed a test-fire of the Super Heavy booster, which has 33 Raptor engines at its base, as one of the final technical steps towards launch.
