JAKARTA - A unique incident occurred during the crypto hacking in Euler Finance's decentralized finance protocol (DeFi). Reportedly, a hacker named Jacob succeeded in exploiting Euler Finance and stealing money in a $200 million cryptocurrency that occurred in early March.

However, an unexpected thing was done by a hacker who used the pseudonym 'Jacob'. The hacker suddenly returned the stolen funds in stages. In fact, Jacob had sent a message stating that he promised to return the stolen funds. Furthermore, he also expressed concern about the safety of his life. In a follow-up message, the hacker showed deep regret.

"Jacob is here," he wrote. "I don't think what I'm saying will help me in any way, but I still want to say it. I mess it up. I don't want to, but I mess up other people's money, other people's work, other people's lives. I'm really chaotic. I'm sorry. I didn't mean any of that. I really didn't mean to do all that. I'm sorry."

Jacob managed to steal a number of cryptocurrencies which included DAI stablecoins worth US$8.7 million, USDC stablecoins worth US$34 million (Rp511 billion), WBTC worth US$19 million (Rp286 billion), and finally ETH US$136 million (equivalent to Rp2 trillion). He took advantage of the short loan feature to collect the funds on March 13.

According to on-chain intelligence firm Arkham, the assets were then collected only into ETH and DAI and stored with the holder's address, with a total value of 205 million US dollars (Rp 3.08 trillion).

However, about a week ago, hackers began returning some of the ETHs they had stolen to the victims and even sent some to North Korea's Lazarus Group. The following week, he had returned $ 100 million worth of ETH to Euler Finance's channeling address.

DailyHodl reports that over the past few days, Jacob has sent 31,000 ETH and 30 million DAI to the Euler team's multisig address. Hackers still keep 18 million US dollars (Rp271 billion) in the form of ETH and 13 million US dollars (Rp195 billion) in DAI.
