JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) stated its readiness to anticipate cyber crimes that could occur during the Holy Month of Ramadan. The crimes include monitoring of digital spaces from content containing prohibited or negative content.

"For cyber crimes, if the Ministry of Communication and Information monitors the content, yes. If the content contains prohibited content or negative content, then we will take steps," said Director General of Information and Public Communication at the Ministry of Communication and Information Usman Kansong quoting Antara, Saturday, March 18.

According to Usman, if content is found that violates, the Ministry of Communication and Information will ask electronic system operators (PSE) to remove content or take down.

However, if there is a cyber crime such as hacking or security threats, it will become the authority of other institutions such as the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) and the police.

Usman also appealed to the public to maintain the security of their personal data, including during the Holy Month of Ramadan, by not distributing the data haphazardly, especially in the digital space.

In addition, he also asked PSE to protect the personal data of the people they collect.

"PSE is the manager of an electronic system, he must use the personal data he collects according to its designation. For example, if it is to create an account, it can't be shared, it can't be sold. So this PSE is responsible for protecting personal data," he said.

Usman explained that Kominfo always coordinates with PSE in protecting people's personal data. If PSE commits a violation, the Ministry of Communication and Information will take administrative action steps, ranging from warnings to blocking.

Meanwhile, law enforcement will be carried out by the competent authorities such as the police and the prosecutor's office.

Usman said that efforts to prevent cyber crimes were carried out through laws and regulations, as well as giving appeals to the public.

In the Personal Data Protection Act, spreading personal data that is not in accordance with its designation can be subject to sanctions.

With the steps that have been prepared by the Ministry of Communication and Information, it is hoped that the security of digital space during Ramadan can be maintained properly and the community can avoid cyber crime.
