GTA Online's Success Is Something Rockstar Games Can't Imagine

JAKARTA - Even though it was released almost ten years ago, Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5 is still one of the biggest games and consistently successful.

Launching GamingBolt, GTA 5 has sold more than 175 units to date. Even so, that success was also obtained due to the contribution of GTA Online, which also lasts a long time, and is always present and growing all the time.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar, GTA Online design director Scott Butchard, not even the studio Rockstar Games could have anticipated the game's success.

Butchard revealed that before GTA Online started, they never imagined that it would be going strong ten years after the game's launch, and the success that has been achieved has far exceeded anything they could have hoped for at the time.

“When we started, I don't think we ever dreamed that we would still last another 10 years. The success of GTA Online was never what we expected," he said.

Going forward, as has been widely circulated before, Rockstar seems to have no plans to slow down, and is planning big things for GTA Online.

“Obviously we want to make sure GTA Online updates are free and accessible to everyone, so our whole community can experience it together. It still stands today,” he added.

At first, Butchard added, the studio was pushing GTA Online as a multiplayer experience whether cooperative or competitive, and they needed to include other players to have fun playing together.

“Over time, we realized so many experiences work better when we give them more potential to enjoy the game on an individual level, and the core experience can then be transformed and enhanced by playing with others,” he said.

On the other hand, Rockstar has confirmed that the studio is currently working on Grand Theft Auto 6, so it will be interesting to see how the company approaches GTA Online once the series' next mainline game comes out.
