YouTube Launches Creator Music, Can Purchase Licensed Music To Add To Videos

JAKARTA - YouTube has launched a new feature called Creator Music, which functions to help creators monetize their video content.

In an announcement shared Monday, February 13, YouTube also said that Creator Music would make it easier for creators in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) to access a music catalog to use in their videos.

Launching first in the US, this feature will be released in the coming weeks, and continues to explore expansion to more countries in 2023.

How does Creator Music work?

To use it, you just need to access Creator Music directly from YouTube Studio on your computer. After that, browse for a specific track according to your needs. From there, you'll see icons representing the various usage terms that songs have within Creator Music.

Then, in the pricing section to the right, you'll be able to see whether you can purchase the music license upfront or share the revenue with the artist and associated music rights holder.

With Creator Music, you may see the following options if a song is eligible:

1. Purchase a license to use music: If you bought a license, review the license terms, check it, and then you can download the song and add it to the video when editing.
2. Pay for music by sharing revenue with associated artists and music rights holders. This means that you won't pay the rights holders for a music license, but instead you will pay by sharing a portion of the video revenue with the song's copyright holder.
