JAKARTA - Tinder announced an update to one of its security features which is used to better protect users against online crimes.

The update includes an expansion of the hate speech, sexual exploitation and sexual harassment categories for the features ‘Is This Upsetting You?’ and ‘Are You Sure?’ which were launched two years ago.

Apart from that, Tinder has also given users more control over their app, by introducing 'Incognito Mode' and 'Block', as well as improving their method of reporting member profiles.

Updates on 'Is This Bothering You?' and 'Are You Sure?'

In this update, Tinder includes more language that is classified as dangerous or inappropriate for the platform, some of which are related to hate speech, sexual exploitation, and harassment that violate Community Rules.

Next, the option 'Are You Sure?' will appear automatically before sending messages that Tinder thinks contain inappropriate language.

Instead, the 'Is This Bothering You?' feature invites users to report inappropriate chat, and take action against other users who are deemed to be not complying with Tinder's rules.

"Every interaction on Tinder has been created with security in mind, but we also hear from members that they don't always know every security feature out there, how to use it, to how to stay safe when taking chats outside the app," said VP Product, Integrity Tinder, Rory Kozollb in a statement.

More control in the latest features:

As Tinder's ongoing effort to lead the dating industry in safety product innovation, Tinder is also releasing several new features including:

Incognito Mode: with this feature, each user can still Like or Dislike the app, but only users they have liked can see their profile as recommendations. This feature is available for Tinder+, Gold, and Premium members only.

Block: with this feature, when a profile appears on the homepage, users can immediately block the profile before matching so that it doesn't appear again. This feature will be coming to Android users first, and then to iOS users in Q1 2023.

Long Press for Reporting: this feature allows the user to tap and hold on an objectionable message, so that the flow of reporting can go directly to the column of that message.
