Fighting Climate Change, MakerDAO Founder Rune Christensen Donates 20,000 MKR Crypto Worth IDR 212 Billion

JAKARTA - MakerDAO (MKR) Founder and CEO, Rune Christensen, recently launched a new proposal in his Maker Improvement Proposal (MIP). He proposed using 20,000 MakerDAO (MKR) tokens to fund the Scientific Sustainability Fund in fighting climate change. This proposal was published in a post on the MakerDAO forums.

In the proposal, Christensen states that "Scientific Sustainability is a core principle of the Maker Constitution which recognizes the critical link between financial infrastructure and global environmental risks from climate change."

Information only, as well as being the founder of MKR, Christensen is also a staunch climate change activist and wants the funds to be used to combat "misinformation about proven energy solutions that have a proven track record of achieving measurable decarbonization."

Currently, 20,000 Makerdao tokens (MKR) are worth around 14 million US dollars (approximately Rp. 212.5 billion) based on today's exchange rates. According to CoinMarketCap data, MKR is traded at IDR 11 million. MKR has increased by 5.4 percent in the last 24 hours.

Even though Christensen believes that the science of climate change is quite well-established, there are still those who argue and insist that climate change is not happening. However, a number of crypto proponents underestimate the plan.

Some crypto proponents scoffed at Christensen's plans, some calling them "trash" and accusing him of "a thief who hurts MKR holder value."

In addition, there are also those who question the use of the DAI stablecoin project to combat climate change. DAI is a stablecoin published by MakerDAO. DAI is developed on the Ethereum blockchain.

It seems that the plan is not only opposed by a part of the crypto community. On the other hand, the crypto community that supports the MIP proposal suggested that MakerDAO cooperate with KlimaDAO, a blockchain-based climate funding project.
