YOGYAKARTA - A red and white electric bus at the G20 Summit (BLiMP) has been launched by the Ministry of Transportation together with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology on Sunday (13/11/2022).

As reported by VOI from dephub.go.id, this electric bus is the result of collaboration between elements of the government, universities, and industry players, namely: Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Education and Culture Dikti, Ministry of SOEs, PT Industri Kereta Api (IINKA), as well as a consortium of a number of universities in Indonesia consisting of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), Airlangga University (UNAIR), and the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Denpasar.

On that occasion, the Minister of Transportation appreciated the Ministry of Education and Culture for participating in involving students from a number of universities in building electric buses made by the nation's sons, whose domestic levels have reached more than 50 percent.

"Thank you to Minister Nadiem for providing support in financing the research conducted by students in making this electric bus. Research is the key to how we make components of domestically made electric vehicles that cost less, have good quality, and high cruising range," said the Minister of Transportation.

Furthermore, the Minister of Transportation wants, with collaboration and support from various parties, to be able to accelerate the implementation of massive electric vehicle implementation in Indonesia. "Don't stop here, we will continue to research in depth," said the Minister of Transportation.

On the same occasion, Minister of Education and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim said, the Red and White Electric Bus is the work of collaboration of the nation's children which must be appreciated. According to him, this kind of collaboration can be an example in carrying out a discovery in the future. There is no sectoral ego. The best universities relax their respective egos to collaborate in compiling a consortium," he said.

Nadiem revealed that the G20 Summit is Indonesia's momentum to show its superiority. "At the G20, it is very visible on the world stage, we are able to produce works that come directly from our academics and students," he said.

The presence of the Red and White Electric Bus is a common pride in the success of the G20 Presidency in Indonesia in the G20 Summit and is a tangible manifestation of Indonesia's commitment to support environmentally friendly and sustainable energy transition efforts.

After the G20 Summit, the Red and White Electric Bus will later be used as urban mass transportation in the city of Bandung, Surabaya, and Bali, through the buy the service (BTS) program from the Ministry of Transportation, which will be operated by DAMRI.

To campaign for the mass use of electric vehicles in Indonesia and take advantage of the G20 momentum, the Ministry of Transportation also held an electric vehicle exhibition, which took place at the Bali Art Collection, Nusa Dua Bali. The exhibition, which was held on 12-16 November 2022, was the culmination of the Jakarta-Bali electric vehicle touring activity, which was released at Monas on Monday (7/11). The exhibition was exemplified by electric vehicle companies, providers of public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU), conversion workshops, and some universities.

Specification

In terms of production, the Red and White bus is different from conventional buses. If conventional buses apply rolling chassis, the Red and White bus does not apply it on the grounds to adjust the optimal weight of 8 tons.

At the initial stage, it will take at least three days to overcome a bus unit. This means that in a month it can produce about 10 units of buses. It is possible that one bus unit can be completed within one day when all parts are available.

In making this electric bus, we apply the same method as making trains. We built the body component first. We finished the top while waiting for the imported components to arrive," said Edi.

The system is indeed not common in the automotive world. As a result, rolling chassis has already existed in the chassis, only after that it builds the upper component. On the other hand, the implementation of the Red and White bus is similar to the construction of trains.
