Welcoming The New Year, Jakarta Public Transportation Is Free For All

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will free public transportation rates such as Transjakarta, MRT Jakarta, and LRT Jakarta for two days during the New Year celebrations, namely on December 31, 2024 and January 1, 2025.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, in celebration of New Year's Eve 2025, the Transjakarta service will operate 24 hours on 13 main corridors by deploying 2,158 large buses.

"So all major buses will be fully operational, while the MRT, LRT, and KRL will be operational until 02 am on January 1, 2025," Syafrin told reporters, Friday, December 27.

Syafrin said that the reduction in tariffs and extension of the operational hours of mass public transportation is expected to reduce the use of private vehicles for people who want to celebrate the New Year outside the home.

"We appeal to the public even though there are sufficient parking spaces prepared, we still hope that activity centers will continue to use public transportation services," said Syafrin.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is holding a number of activities to enliven the 2026 New Year celebrations. On December 31, several activities will be held. The first is JeJAki Jakarta, in the form of exploring the Jakarta civilization which took place at 07.00-09.00 WIB.

"Right at 00.00 we will meet 5 centuries in Jakarta and the turn of the year. So, this morning we will do JeJAKi Jakarta. We will follow all sites related to the civilization of the City of Jakarta," said Head of the DKI Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Andhika Permata.

People who want to take part in this activity can start from the Maritime Museum as the 0 point of time setting Batavia City. The next stage is to the Raja Kuring restaurant, the Ingan City Bridge, the Jakarta History Museum, the Ceramic Museum, Beos Station (Jakarta Kota), then ending at DKI Jakarta City Hall.

The second activity is the hope of JAKAsa. In this activity, the DKI Provincial Government will unfurl 500 meters of white cloth for Jakarta residents to write down their hopes for the City of Jakarta towards the age of 500 years.

The cloth will be placed at several points, starting from City Hall, as well as mayor's offices and the administrative regent of the Thousand Islands. Later, the cloth will be displayed on Jalan MH Thamrin to Jalan Jenderal Sudirman during car free day (CFD) throughout 2025.

The next activities are Bazaar Jakpreneur which is located at 5 points on Jalan MH Thamrin-Jalan Sudirman, and Late Night Shopping at Lippo Mall Puri, and Green Sedayu Mall.

At its peak, there will be an entertainment stage to celebrate New Year's Eve. At the provincial level, the stage is spread on Jalan MH Thamrin and Jalan Sudirman, Lapangan Banteng, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Monas on the south side, Kota Tua, and Ancol.

Also held is an entertainment stage at the city and district levels of the Thousand Islands. A total of 23 entertainment stages were prepared.

This entertainment stage event entitled Semarak Jakarta World is enlivened by a number of musicians, including Letto, Naff, Ten2Five, RAN, Merpati Band, Yura Yunita, Endah N Rhesa, Mahaz, and others.
