JAKARTA – The boss of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, officially owns Twitter after completing its acquisition on October 27, 2022. With the success of the purchase, Musk plans to eliminate bot accounts on Twitter. In addition, he also plans to implement various new rules for social media.

Not long ago, Musk posted a series of tweets. In one of them he stated that the owner of the Blue Twitter account had to pay 8 dollars per month. He considered the blue tick system on the social media platform "is bullshit".

“Twitter's current system of rulers & farmers for who has or doesn't have a blue tick is bullshit. Power for the people! Blue for $8/month," wrote Elon Musk in his official Twitter account @elonmusk, November 1, 2022.

Previously, Elon mentioned $20 in his tweet, however, many verified users on Twitter, including best-selling US horror writer Stephen King strongly objected to it.

Replying to King's tweet about it earlier today, Musk explained that Twitter "needs to pay the bills somehow" and can't just rely on advertisers. He asked the writer if 8 bucks was okay with him.

Now, Musk officially announced the owner of a verified account or blue tick to pay a fee of 8 per month for Twitter Blue. Michael Saylor of MicroStrategy stepped in to comment that "bots wouldn't like" this monthly fee and Musk stated that it "would destroy bots".

Verified Account Can be Suspended if Involved in Scam

“Yes, this will destroy the bot. If a paid Blue account is involved in spam/scam, it will be suspended. Essentially, this increases the cost of crime on Twitter by several orders of magnitude," Musk said.

He added that if a paid Blue Twitter account engages in spam/scam activity, the account will be suspended. Scam bots have become a long-term problem for many verified users, especially for crypto influencers, such as Binance's CZ, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and Elon Musk himself.

Musk has also promised that there will be rewards for content creators but hasn't mentioned crypto here or spoken about DOGE specifically, against the expectations of the Dogecoin community.

As is known, Twitter is crowded with bot accounts, spam, and often sends fraudulent or scamming links. Not a few are also verified accounts that are involved in scamming by imitating the owner of the blue tick account, both from the profile photo and name. A number of figures from the crypto industry such as Changpeng Zhao (CEO of Binance), Brad Garlinghouse (CEO of Ripple), and even Elon Musk were imitated by fake account owners to carry out their actions.

Because of the emergence of these impersonators, CZ and Garlinghouse regretted that Twitter allowed these accounts to circulate and ensnare potential victims. Therefore, making a number of efforts to combat these accounts, one of which is by implementing a verified account payment of 8 US dollars per month.
