JAKARTA - Meta is once again trying to build on the metaverse by bringing Facebook's Bitmoji-style avatars to its messaging app, WhatsApp, after first storming Instagram and Messenger.

First reported by WABetaInfo, the avatar is available in the latest WhatsApp version 2.22.23.9 on Android. Unfortunately, not all users can try this avatar feature because it is still in beta.

Some users who have access to the feature will see a new Avatar category in their settings menu, which can be used to customize their own digital version.

Similar to other Meta apps, after the user creates an avatar and designs it, WhatsApp will then create a sticker pack with the avatar in various poses.

Users can express themselves with the avatar when sending messages to family and friends.

However, it is unclear when this feature will roll out to all Android users, or plans to bring it to iOS users.

Citing The Verge, Monday, October 24, Meta first introduced avatars in Messenger and News Feeds in 2019 before being available for replying to comments and Facebook Stories in 2020.

Earlier this year, the tech giant created 3D-view avatars that users could use for profile photos on Facebook and as replies to Instagram Stories.
