JAKARTA - Edgio, a provider of edge-enabled software solutions, mitigated one of the largest Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on record measuring 176 million packets per second (Mpps) targeting multinational e-commerce clients based in Asia.

“The attack lasted about 30 minutes and targeted our PoP locations in the European Union, then our Anycast network quickly spread the load over a wider geographic area,” said Richard Yew, the Senior Director Product Management Security at Edgio, in a press release.

Edgio's software-based DDoS detection and mitigation system, called 'Stonefish' is able to protect our clients from attacks. Stonefish works 24x7x365 or year-round, analyzing samples of all attacks that cross our network, quantifying the risk of each threat, automatically taking action when needed, and providing our network with visibility and operations center alerts (NOCs) so they can perform additional analysis and take mitigation actions quickly.

“Despite the massive attack, our clients did not suffer any impact because the Edgio network absorbed 100% of the attack traffic. Our SOC 24x7 informs clients of any attack, although they don't need to take any action as the attack is automatically handled."
