JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) encourages the public to use certified Set Top Box (STB).

In the Webinar of the Community Preparedness Survey in Supporting the New Digital TV Broadcast, it was held virtually, the Director-General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Usman Kansong said there were 36 STBs certified by the Government and have been marketed.

"Currently, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has recorded 36 set top boxes that have been certified, so that people have many choices of set top boxes with various feature and price offers," said Usman, in a press release from the Ministry of Communication and Information, quoted Thursday, July 7.

The Director-General of Public Information and Communication (IKP) of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics also emphasized that in accordance with Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation, which is no later than November 2, 2022, Indonesia has migrated from analog TV broadcasts to digital TV and the termination of analog TV broadcasts or Analog Switch-Off (ASO).

According to Usman, digital TV devices are widely traded throughout Indonesia. As for people who still don't plan to replace their analog TV with new TVs that already use digital technology, they can install STB in order to receive digital TV broadcasts.

Digital TV migration in Indonesia has been taking place since April 30, 2022. The termination of the Analog TV phase I begins with 3 broadcast areas consisting of 6 districts and 2 cities.

Usman said that neighboring countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam had ended their analog TV broadcasts first.

"Therefore, the Government is making various efforts to make the ASO program a success. We spend a lot of money both by the government and the private sector to prepare ASO as well as possible," he said.

On this occasion, the Director General of IKP Usman Kansong introduced a working partner of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics who worked together to survey the community's readiness to support a new era of digital TV broadcasting.

The results of the Multi Utama Researchindo and Kompas Research and Development survey show that public knowledge of digital TV broadcasts ahead of the termination of analog broadcasts or the Analog Switch Off (ASO) by the government is increasing.
