JAKARTA - Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on his official Facebook page is seen showing off his next-generation mixed reality headset in a video.

The headset, codenamed Project Cambria, is categorized as a high-end device, which is scheduled to launch later this year and supports a new augmented reality (AR) experience dubbed The World Beyond.

In the uploaded video, Zuckerberg can be seen playing with a virtual character while stroking him which is superimposed on the real world. It is claimed, that Cambria image quality will be more real where users can read the text very clearly.

The demo video also shows a virtual practice instructor who appears to be in the same room as the headset user. The World Beyond is built on the Meta Presence Platform, which is designed to help developers create mixed reality experiences.

Project Cambria will support full-color displays. Its onboard camera seems to be able to give users a clearer view of their surroundings for mixed reality purposes than Quest headsets offer.

The World Beyond will soon be available on Quest via the App Lab. Although the new headset is not clear what its shape will be, it will reportedly be priced at 799 US dollars equivalent to IDR 11 million.

Launching Engadget, Friday, May 13, Meta employees uniquely equate Project Cambria with a laptop for the face, because it is said to have specifications similar to Chromebooks.

It is also believed that Meta plans to release a more advanced version of the Cambria headset in 2024 as well as two new Quest models over the next few years.

However, it seems that Meta is cutting back on some of its metaverse ambitions. Not long ago, the company is said to have closed several projects at Reality Labs, the hardware and metaverse division that lost $10 billion last year, and withheld others.
