JAKARTA - Ahead of Earth Day, Gojek and GoTo Financial have just introduced the GoGreener Collective Tree feature which makes it easier for users to participate in planting trees.

Through the GoGreener Collective Tree feature, now users while traveling can also participate in planting trees by only contributing IDR 1,000 when riding a GoRide and IDR 2.000 when riding a GoCar.

The GoGreener Collective Tree is part of the GoGreener program launched by Gojek in 2019 with the aim of eliminating the carbon footprint, and less than the first month since this feature was launched, more than 100.000 consumers have supported this program.

"Now, Gojek customers can plant trees when they travel with GoRide or GoCar. Through the GoGreener Collective Tree, at this Earth Day moment, Gojek is committed to increasing the number of trees that consumers have collected in the period from April 22 to May 21, 2022," said Tanah Sullivan, Head of Sustainability GoTo Group in a virtual press conference, Wednesday, April 20.

Users can activate the GoGreener Collective Tree feature by clicking the button next to the voucher when making a GoRide or GoCar order. After that, the GoGreener Collective Tree feature will appear, then users can slide the existing button to activate it.

In this case, Gojek is not alone, they are collaborating with Jejak.in, a country startup in the environmental sector that provides Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT)-based solutions to monitor and manage trees or plants planted by GoRide and GoCar users.

Through this technology, the process of planting trees to absorb carbon footprints can be carried out easily, transparently, and sustainably.

On the same occasion, Nani Hendiarti, Deputy for Environmental Management and Forestry Coordination, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenkomarves) said the Gojek program was in line with government programs related to environmental sustainability.

“The Indonesian government is targeting to rehabilitate 600,000 hectares of critical mangrove areas in Indonesia and requires pentahelix (multi-stakeholder) support, including from the private sector. This is in line with Gojek's initiative, which also invites users of its ecosystem to be able to plant trees, one of which is mangroves," said Nani.

Nani explained, on the other hand, regarding waste management, Indonesia has succeeded in reducing waste leakage from land to sea by 28.5 percent until 2021.

According to her, this achievement is very encouraging because it has exceeded the value of 2.6 percent of the previously set target.

"We hope that this number will get better with Gojek participating in socializing and providing assistance to its ecosystem in managing waste," said Nani.

In addition, the Dari Small Action program was also present, which invited and facilitated business partners, especially MSMEs, to be able to apply environmentally friendly business practices as well as being expected to help business partner development.

“The issue of climate change must be socialized in a way that is easy to understand. Gojek's invitation, while walking, can plant trees illustrates that environmentally friendly steps can be carried out together with us carrying out daily activities," explained Nani.
