JAKARTA - Apple Inc has started making iPhone 13 in India. This they announced on Monday, April 11, as the US tech giant tries to reduce its dependence on its supply chain in China.

According to a source quoted by Reuters, the phone is being manufactured at a local factory at Apple's contract manufacturer in Taiwan, Foxconn, which is located in the city of Sriperumbudur in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

Apple has shifted some areas of iPhone production from China to other markets including India, which has been the second-largest smartphone market in the world. They even have plans to assemble the iPad tablet there.

India and countries like Mexico and Vietnam are becoming increasingly important for mobile phone manufacturers supplying American brands as they try to diversify production from China.

The iPhone 13 is the fourth model to be produced locally, after Apple launched manufacturing operations in India in 2017 with the advent of the iPhone SE.
