Electric Cars Still Have Many Problems, Lucid Group Withdraws Premium Electric Sedans Due To Safety Issues

JAKARTA – An electric car that is perfect and without complaints, it's still rare to find. After Tesla was forced to withdraw many of its products, now it's the turn of electric vehicles made by the Lucid Group, also the same.

Sources at Lucid said on Tuesday, February 22, that it would recall more than 200 of its premium sedans due to possible safety concerns. This decision, made the company's shares fell nearly 5%.

The California-based company said it was possible that the front strut damper, a part used in the suspension, on its sedan was improperly assembled by its supplier.

As reported by Reuters, Lucid was not aware of any failed parts in his vehicles, but estimates around 1% of the 203 potentially affected cars may have had the wrong part installed.

Lucid began building its $169,000 electric sedan variant in September 2021 after struggling with delays caused by quality issues. Now Lucid has shipped a small number of its car products to customers.

In recent weeks, Tesla Inc has also filed a recall with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for issues related to its driver assistance system and other software issues.

General Motors Co., in August 2021, also recalled more than 73.000 Bolt electric vehicles at a cost of $1 billion due to the risk of battery burn. The recall is an expansion of similar actions the company took last month when it discovered defects in its electric car batteries.

These facts show that self-driving cars or autonomous cars and electric cars still have many problems related to their technology. In contrast to conventional manufacturers or carmakers, with internal combustion which is relatively rare in withdrawing their products.
