JAKARTA - Tesla Model Y's sales continue to strengthen across Europe, even strong enough to become the best-selling new vehicle on the blue continent for five months this year.

Initial sales data from Dataforce, quoted from Carscoops, September 21, showed that Tesla had sold a total of 19,725 Model Y units across Europe in August. This figure saw a significant 189% increase compared to the 6,817 units sold in August last year, and much more compared to sales in July 2023, at the time it was still ranked 17th as the best-selling vehicle in Europe.

High demand for Model Y throughout 2023 made it the best-selling new car in Europe during the first eight months of this year. In fact, 151,191 units have been sold in Europe from January to August, placing the Model Y slightly above Dacia Sandero with 148,080 units sold and the VW T-Roc in third place with 138,302 units.

In total, Tesla's sales have surged 198.3% across Europe throughout 2023, far exceeding sales of Sandero and T-Roc which only increased by 19.2% and 20.7% respectively.

In general, new car sales in Europe showed strong growth this year. In fact, only Peugeot 208 was the only car among 17 best-selling cars to report a decline in sales volume in 2023, with a decrease of 6.7%. In contrast, Renault Clio sales jumped 57.7% to 123,134 units, Tuguan's VW sales rose 33.6% to 113,150 units, Octavia's Skolda sales jumped 59.7% to 99,706 units, and Toyota Yaris Cross sales increased 38.1%, reaching 110,446 units.

Various other models also experienced a significant increase in demand this year. For example, sales of VW ID.4 jumped 82.7% from 29,811 to 54,479 units, while sales of Dacia Jogger also rose 79.6% from 30,640 to 55,038 units.

Auto News estimates Tesla Model Y sales will soar even higher this September, given the company is typically experiencing the strongest sales in the last month of every financial quarter.

Judging from the specifications, it is quite natural that Model Y sells well in Europe, its car is practically capable of carrying 7 passengers. Each second row seat can be folded separately, creating flexible storage for ski kits, furniture, suitcases, and others.

Meanwhile, the price itself in Europe is marketed starting at 60,990 euros or around Rp998 million.
