Toyota, known for its hybrid technology, plans to present electric vehicle (EV) models equipped with future long-range capabilities batteries. They recently announced more details about the latest generation of battery technology that some time ago has been reported.

In 2026, reported by InsideEVs, Thursday, September 14, Toyota will present four types of new generation batteries, three with liquid electrolytes and one with solid-state battery technology. This battery will empower about 1.7 million out of 3.5 million BEV which is expected to be sold by Toyota by 2030.

First for a liquid electrolyte battery, the main battery on Toyota's current BEV car is being developed into three types with high energy density and charging speed. These three batteries are referred to as "Performance", "Popularization", and "High-Performance".

The first battery, called Performance, will debut in 2026 with a range of more than 1,200 km and fast charging in 20 minutes. Then, Popularization will be the cheapest option and will be marketed in 2026-2027. The latter, High Performance, will be able to reach more than 1,000 km and is planned to debut in 2027-2028.

In addition, Toyota will release a solid-state battery in 2027 or 2028, which will increase the distance to about 1,200 km and charge in 10 minutes. Obviously this distance almost equals the Toyota Mirai which has a distance of 1,360 km with a single hydrogen refueling.

Not only increasing the capacity of the contents in the battery, but Toyota is also trying to reduce the size of the battery to increase the efficiency of use and reduce vehicle weight. They aim to reduce the battery height to 120 mm or even 100 mm for the "High Performance" model.

With all these innovations, Toyota is ready to compete with other manufacturers as well as accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles that are more efficient and have high performance.
