JAKARTA - The automotive giant from the United States, General Motors, has announced its plans to introduce a series of new electric vehicle models based on their latest platform, Ultium.

Despite launching several previous electric vehicle models, GM is committed to developing their Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) ranks substantially this year with six new models. This includes two variants of Chevrolet Silverado EV, Chevrolet Blazar EV, Chevrolet Equinox EV, van BrightDrop Zevo 400, and Cadillac Celestiq.

With this move, GM will combine these models with a series of existing electric vehicles, such as Cadillac Lyriq, GMC Hummer EV, and BrightDrop Zevo 600, while replacing Chevrolet Bolt EV which will end production in December.

Launching from InsideEVs Monday, August 14, the company is targeting production of some of these models with Chevrolet Silverado EV scheduled to begin assembly process in the third quarter of this year, with deliveries to customers expected to follow soon.

Meanwhile, another variant of the Silverado EV, namely the Silverado EV RST First Edition, is scheduled to start production in the late quarter of 2023, along with BrightDrop Zevo 400, Chevrolet Equinox EV, and Cadillac Celestiq.

Chevrolet Blazer EV production is currently underway and is expected to enter the delivery stage by the end of 2023 or early 2024.

Despite the slight delay from the initial schedule, the plan is still ongoing. For example, the Silverado EV, which was originally expected to start production in the spring, has been delayed. However, GM has decided to make the transition to electric vehicles in stages, while continuing to develop in GM-owned factories in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

With this expansion plan, GM hopes to generate profits from the massive investments they have made. Previously, GM also introduced an electric SUV, the IQ Escalade, which will be launched in the future. In addition to offering large dimensions such as the conventional model, this car will highlight the luxury and elegant characteristics of the upgraded Cadillac brand.

Changes to this model not only impact designs, but also include transformations in terms of more sophisticated interiors, technologies, and luxury features.
