The Vocalist Of The Darkness Justin Hawkins Claims To Be Late New Rockstar At The Age Of 18

JAKARTA - Justin Hawkins thought he was 'too old' to be a rockstar at the age of 18.

The vocalist and guitarist for The Darkness band told the Metro newspaper he thought he would not be a musician when he reached the age of 18 and began learning music and working behind the scenes.

"I remember when I was around 18 years old and I saw bands like Ash appear and think, 'It's over, I'm too old!' But I still want to be involved in the music world, so I go and learn music technology and get a job at the recording studio," Hawkins said via Yahoo.

He then went on to reflect on his journey and was contracted by a record label at the age of 25.

"Then I made a kind of easy-to-hear song cassette that I wrote to my grandfather as a Christmas present. And it was heard by someone at an publishing company and they thought, 'Oh, things that are easy to hear like this are ideal to sync with movies, TV shows and advertisements' and they signed me,' told the story.

"I did a lot. I made HSBC, Mars Bars, Audi... and then I made an Ikea ad, which basically paid for our first album and bought me and my brother Les Paul our first."

Meanwhile last month, The Darkness shared a trailer for their upcoming long documentary, Welcome to the Darkness.

Directed by Simon Total, this documentary will tell the story of the formation of The Darkness in the early 2000s, their rapidly increasing fame and their disbandment in 2006, which finally covered their reunion in 2011.

The film was released in theaters for just one night on November 9 yesterday and will be available in the form of digital downloads and Blu-ray starting December 4.
