JAKATA - American rapper Macklemore delivered a passionate speech at a pro-Palestinian rally that called the conflict a genocide'.

The rapper was invited to give an impromptu speech in Washington, DC, where he spoke of the conflict.

Al Jazeera claims, the death toll of Palestinians has now reached 9,770 as of November 5 (now more than 10 thousand people). At least 4,000 victims were reported to be children.

Meanwhile, AP reported that about 1,400 Israeli civilians were killed, mostly as a result of the October 7 Hamas attack.

Speaking to the crowd, the man whose real name is Ben Haggerty said: 'First and foremost, it's really beautiful to observe today.' He continued: 'There are thousands of people here who are more eligible to talk about the issue of Palestinian independence than I am, but I will say this.

They told me to shut up. They told me to do research, to go back to the past, that saying something was too complicated, wasn't it? To be silent at the moment. In the last three weeks, I have come back and done research. And I'm easy to learn. I don't quite know. But I quite know that this is genocide."

Last Tuesday, Macklemore outlined his thoughts on the speech in a strong statement.

Last week at the parade in Washington DC I was reminded of our collective strength as human beings. Our equality, not our difference."

I witness solidarity with Palestine that extends throughout the spectrum of humanity. Jewish youth and Muslims lined up, saying words of resistance together. Palestinian women on the podium move the soul with their voices, their stories. I had a beautiful conversation with Jews who came to march for the same reason my Muslim brothers, Tamir and Moustafa did.

He continued: A conflict like this triggers our division as humans. Violence as retaliation will never give us lasting peace. Collective punishment can never be justified. And as long as Netanyahu and the Israeli government's actions (with full support from the US) take root in violence, it will never make us safer.

Macklemore went on to emphasize that his stance was "unrooted in Anti-Semitism", saying: "I have deep space and mercy for my Jewish brothers who are in pain, experience fear or become the target of hatred in any form of anyone they are. I wholeheartedly condemn Anti-Semitism in any form."
