Lars Ulrich About Playing 2 Different Setlists In Each City On The 'M72' Tour: Fun Format

JAKARTA - While appearing on SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation Power Trip Special", Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich talks about the ongoing "M72" world tour.

It is known, on the tour, Metallica appeared two nights in nearly two dozen cities.

Addressed worldwide by Liquid Death and Blackened American Whiskey (only in North America) and promoted Live Nation, the journey with these 46 shows launched in Amsterdam on April 27 and will include performances across Europe and North America until 2024.

Every "No Repeat Weekend" on M72 features two very different setlists and ranks of support.Regarding the idea of playing two different sets in each city, Lars said.

"It's really fun, and it looks like it's connecting with the fans out there. To be honest, and I think I've been around this a few times, it took a while for it to go down, because you thought, 'OK, what should we do?' Lars opened up.

"And these ideas, as I have said before, some of these ideas, theoretically look good on email networks or whenever you're sitting talking about, 'Yes, next year, let's do this, let's do that.' And then, like, 'just do it. We really do it.' And then you have to put it together and then you have to get used to the new stages and then you have to get used to a lot of new things," he continued.

"But it feels like when we got to America in early August at the MetLife [stadium in New Jersey], it felt like we found the flow. And it was so fun. So we're doing everything again next year and we're looking forward to it. to see what's behind it. But it's a fun format. It's a fun stage."

The drummer added that they have been on stage like this for years. However, they have never appeared in a football stadium. And it was great fun. "The most important thing, when you play on that stage is the turn, you feel like you are closer to most fans," Lars explains.

"So when you're in the middle, it feels like I know the word 'intim' may not be the first word that comes to mind when you play at MetLife or SoFi or these places, but it feels very intimate in such situations. And when you have a lot of fans as close as they are, it feels really like you're connected to more people and more fans and play, it's more fun."

"This is definitely something we love. And next year it will be an amazing year. We will be holding another show in America. So we are looking forward to doing everything again next year."
