Yovie Widianto Asks For LMKN Transparency And Related Parties On Royalties For Song Creators

JAKARTA - The issue of royalties for songwriters is still rolling in the Indonesian music industry. Many of them feel that they do not get economic rights from their works.

Of the many songwriters who speak, the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN), the Collective Management Institute (LMK) and event organizers (EO) or promoters are the parties most often accused of the lack of economic rights obtained by songwriters.

Yovie Widianto, a songwriter who has had a career for more than 30 years in the national music industry, also expressed his voice. He felt there needed to be transparency.

"From the experience I have experienced, it is actually chaotic or chaotic that at this time it may actually decrease or will be minimized if, for example, LMK and LMKN perform, in the sense that transparency is more readable," said Yovie Widianto in Kemang, South Jakarta last week.

"This means that it will be easier if the promoter gives all the list of songs so that any songs that are performed are found out, the LMK only has to share (for royalties) based on the song list," he continued.

So far, said Yovie, many promoters and EO do not include a list of songs performed on the show. Moreover, rumors emerged that royalties were received by other parties outside of copyright holders.

"If that's the case, of course I as a composer certainly want improvement from time to time. This means that the mechanism must be better. Then also law enforcement is next," said Yovie.

With existing problems and technological developments, transparency about song royalties is no longer avoided.

For Yovie himself, transparency can also benefit all parties involved.

"Friends at LMK LMKN, we can no longer avoid being called transparency. Because transparently it can still be cuan, actually, there is no problem with that. So it's better to read everything," said Yovie Widianto.

"This means that we have to reconcile nationally with all of this, we will fix it. The seniors above, let's start an era together. We forget the past, we step forward to a better future, the rules and regulations are implemented but also transparency, so that composers get proper rights," he concluded.
