Wolfgang: Appearing With Van Halen At The Age Of 15 Feels Right

JAKARTA - In an interview with Tommy Carroll of 97.9 GRD, Wolfgang Van Halen, who joined Van Halen at the age of 15, was asked what it would be like to appear with the legendary rock artist for the first time at such a young age.

"It was really... I don't know. It was really stressful, but we've been training so much, for years at the time, so it feels right; it feels like something we've been trying to achieve for a long time," Wolfgang said.

When asked if reproducing back-up vocals originally recorded by former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony helped him develop his own vocals, Wolfgang added.

"Yes, I'm sure. Doing it for a long time is certainly a pretty tiring exercise. So I'm sure about that."

Last month, Wolfgang told Australia's "Everblack" podcast that "there are many positive things and many negative things" for him to play with Van Halen at the starting point of his life.

As is known, Wolfie shared the stage with his father, legendary guitarist Van Halen, Eddie from 2006 to 2015, five years before his father's death.

"I think it really forces me to become an adult very quickly at a young age," he said. "I think at the age of 15, I can't be an ordinary teenager who is 15 years old. So in some ways, I can't be an ordinary teenager anymore when that happens, and I experience a lot of things, I think, most kids that age won't experience normal things," he explained.

"But that's my story and I'm not going to take it back for anything. It's what has taken me to a place I've achieved my whole life. It's very important to be there and to support my father, and that's all I really have in mind. And being able to play with my family as long as it's something I'll never forget."

In recent months, Wolfgang has repeatedly said that the "drama" at Van Halen's camp has hindered Van Halen's all-star tribute project proposals from being realized.

Wolfgang himself played three Van Halen songs during Taylor Hawkins' two tribute concerts in September 2022 with Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl on bass, Josh Freese on drums, and Justin Hawkins from The Darkness on vocals.
