JAKARTA - Payment for music royalties in Indonesia has been in the spotlight in recent times. Many songwriters finally opened their voices because they felt they did not get a decent fee.

Meanwhile, royalty payments from users compiled by the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN) are known to have not gone quite well.

There are still many song and/or music users who have not paid royalties according to the tariff, as stipulated in the Decree of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number HKI.2.OT.03.01-02 of 2016.

On Friday last week, September 1, LMKN reached an agreement with the Television of the Republic of Indonesia (TVRI) which is one of the Commercial Users in the media sector who is obliged to pay royalties on the songs and/or the music used.

Dharma Oratmangun as Chair of the LMKN said TVRI was the first television station to commit to paying royalties at the rate.

Dharma's statement indicates that television stations in Indonesia have not fulfilled their obligations. He also hopes that TVRI can be an example for other television stations.

"Of course this is a breath of fresh air for the Indonesian music industry. TVRI can be a very good example, especially for Indonesia's television broadcasting industry in carrying out royalty payment obligations, because TVRI is the first television pioneer to have made royalty payments according to the Minister's Tariff," said Dharma Oratmangun in an official statement uploaded on the LMKN Instagram account, seen Wednesday, September 6.

With more and more parties paying royalties according to the rate, it is hoped that support will ensure that artists can continue their extraordinary work.
