Irama Nusantara Holds Music Archives Exhibition, Discussion To Music Show October 15

JAKARTA - Irama Nusantara, a non-profit foundation that focuses on filing Indonesia's popular digital music, held an Irama Series which is a program that presents exhibitions of Indonesia's popular music archives, discussion forums, film screenings, and music performances.

The Irama Series will be held at the National Awakening Museum, Central Jakarta from September 16 to October 15.

The four main programs presented were created to celebrate the 10-year journey of Irama Nusantara in filing popular Indonesian music.

Gerry Apriryan as Program Manager of Irama Nusantara stated that what will be presented in this series of events aims to show the position of the music archive to the wider community.

"Through this Irama Series, we want to show what we've been working on for 10 years, and show the public more broadly how the archive is in this ecosystem," said Gerry Apriyan in a written release received by VOI, Friday, September 1.

"Hopefully the community can immediately feel its function and capture the importance of the archive, especially in the scope of Indonesian music. So, then more and more people are interested in processing our collection or maybe even contributing," he continued.

The Indonesian popular music archive exhibition will display a catalog of songs in the period 1960-1969 named from Ngak Ngik Ngok to Dheg Dheg Plas.

There will be three exhibition zones presented, including zones that show the beginning of the development of the popular Indonesian music industry (pre 1960s), zones that show Indonesia's popular music industry under the rule of the Old Order (1960-1965), and zones that invite visitors to dive into portraits of the popular music industry under the rule of the New Order (1966-1969).

The next program is the Ria Conference: Archipelago Archives which will be held on Saturday, October 14. This program is limited to invitees consisting of popular cultural archives activists from all over Indonesia to share their experiences with each other.

Furthermore, the discussion program entitled Bisik-Bisik Musik will be presented by highlighting dialogue related to Indonesia's popular music archives from historical, industrial, academic, and also the use of Intellectual Property Rights.

Some of the topics put forward in this program include 'Accessing Musical Memories Through Visual Archives', 'Auditary Artists and Community Work', 'Protecting the Lokananta Archives, In The Past, Now And Will Come', to 'HKI Management' in Re-release.'

Nine discussion sessions will be held for the public. Music Bisik-Bisik will be held on October 14 and 15 involving experienced and competent speaker and related topics.

Then, film screenings were also presented to further introduce the pop culture of Indonesia in the 1960s era to the public.

Six selected Indonesian film titles from the 1960s decade will be screened to the public every weekend throughout the exhibition, namely Amor & Humor (1961, director Usmar Ismail), Artist Holiday (1965, director Usmar Ismail), Behind Tjahaja Gemerlapan (1967, director Misbach Yusa Biran), Bintang Ketjil (1963, director Wim Umboh & Misbach Yusa Biran), Cheque AA (1966, director of Alam Surawidjaja), and Big Village (1969, director of Usmar Ismail).

Meanwhile, the Irama Series will be closed with the theme of Irama Berdendang music performance which will be held on October 14 and 15.

More than 20 artists will be involved with the concepts of tribute, cover-version, and DJ sets. Some of the filler artists are Diskoria, Nonaria, Bangkutaman, Marijuanasuke, The Panturas and Louisemen & Galabby Thahira.

Selection of Indonesian music will also be performed by DJs or selectors such as Dangerdope, Udasjam, Midnight Runners, Dua Sejoli and Alunan Nusantara.
