Shame And Fear Ofani Manson When Garbage Appears At The 1998 Reading Festival: Become A Headliner, After New Order

JAKARTA - Garbage vocalist Shirley Manson explained why bands around the world don't have to worry about appearing at festivals over time.

Manson recently shared a photo on social media featuring the 1998 Reading Festival line-up, where Garbage became the headline on the same day as the New Order performance.

He explained how scary it was to see his band play after some of their idols.

The vocalist reflected on the events of the day, 25 years ago, in the caption of the photo that read: 25 years ago. I spent the whole day feeling embarrassed because we performed after the New Order. In the same summer, we also performed higher than Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, and Patti Smith. Every time we wanted to prostrate because we were ashamed at the feet of our heroes."

He continued: But we are young and inexperienced. We don't know yet that the music business doesn't treat its veterans gently. In time, while enjoying the privilege of staying, we found ourselves to be in the same position in the festival line-up as the heroes did before us. We came to know that this is a natural thing.

"The line-up position doesn't have much effect on anything other than the simple continuum of life," he explained. We are grateful to still be here. Playing, surfing, and flying across time while being healed by people. We are all grateful for allowing us to sit at the table for more than 25 years. We are forever owed to you.
