Not Feeling Threatened By AI, Jordan Rudess: Dream Theater Opens With The Presence Of Technology

JAKARTA - Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess gave his views on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in music.

He said this when he appeared in SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" last week.

"It's a very big topic, and I'm personally very excited about it. If people are good, who know about AI, like artists, musicians, graphic artists, they will usually say, 'Oh, we can use it as a tool. And we already had tools before. And that's kind of cool'," said the keyboardist.

"But the reality is that technology is always done, but now maybe even more" opens all these extraordinary possibilities for a new level of creativity that we've never seen before. So, yes, this is a tool, a tool for a complete opening door and destroying what we know in many ways.

"And it can be used in many ways so we can hear and see things we've never seen or heard before."

"I myself am someone who works not only in the audio field, but I am also really involved in the visual field. I am a person who can be called an ambassador to a company called Lightricks, who are outside Israel, and they are doing amazing things with AI and photos and videos. And I'm also involved in AI music. And I'm very excited about that.

So how much AI technology will enter the Dream Theater world?

"We're actually quite open to the technology I'm bringing, although not completely taking over, of course, what we've been doing, because we've been doing this for a long time. But in general, [I'm] very, very excited about that," Jordan said.

"I think it's cool. People should pay attention to it. And as a creative person, I'm very involved, say, the positive side."
