VOI Reviews: Fun Three Days Of Travel With Chery Omoda 5 RZ

Chery has made a surprise in the Indonesian automotive market by introducing models that are attracting attention, and one of them is Omoda 5.

SUVs launched earlier this year present in two variants, Z and RZ, have succeeded in attracting the attention of automotive lovers and placing Chery as a player to be reckoned with in the country's automotive industry.

We at VOI were given the opportunity by PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) to conduct trials with a unit of Omoda 5 RZ for three days. How do we reflect on our driving experience and performance in the medium term? Here is the full review.

Dare External Design

Omoda 5 has a striking and unique appearance. Without the emblems or the words 'Chery', many might think this car came from a South Korean or European manufacturer.

The front Grill with the design of a'proceedcomb' or honeycomb with a touch of diamond patterned dots and thin LED lights provides a touch of luxury. This car looks even more sporty with water intake that adds to the appeal on the front.

In addition, dynamic curves and compact sizes give the impression of a coup-style SUV. Chery embeds a red list on the bottom of the body including at the bottom end of the front, on 18-inch rims, wings, and rear bumpers, to side mirrors that add to the aggressive impression on this car.

Luxury Interior

Inside, Omoda 5 RZ offers extraordinary luxury and comfort. The cabinet is coated with fine semi-premium skin and a seat that gives a touch of sporty touch. Then there is also a sunset that makes it easier for the light to enter the cabin.

Back passengers can enjoy a wide head and leg space. The comfort is even more complete with a foldable armrest in the middle of the chair. However, for passengers with a height above 175 cm, the headspace may be slightly limited due to the rear roof of this car leaning like a coupe. However, this does not apply to the sitting position at the front.

A comfortable sitting position for the driver with a height above 170 cm, good visibility, and the ability to adjust the steering wheel that makes the driving experience even more enjoyable. Ventilated seat also adds comfort to the driver and forward passenger.

Wide mid-consoles are equipped with various features, such as wireless charging for phones that support this feature, transmission lever cup holders, and important easily accessible buttons.

Meanwhile, the back storage space is also an area suitable for long trips.

Modern Features

The Chery Omoda 5 RZ is equipped with a variety of interesting features. The infotainment system with a 10.25-inch touch screen integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto makes it easier for users to manage various cabin features. The English-language 'Voice Command' feature allows users to easily control their vehicles.

Safety features such as electronic power steering (EPS), electronic parking brake (EPB), Autohold hill assist, lane keeping system, traffic signal recognition system (TSR), adaptive crude system (ACC), and Integrated Cruise Assist (ICA) improve safety while driving. The 360 camera feature allows users to easily see around the vehicle. However, some of these features may feel too much for some users.

Suspension and Control

During the trial period, we tested this car on various road conditions, including sharp turns, congestion, mounds, and inclines. Omoda 5 RZ shows good and stable ability to face various challenges on urban roads. The response from the steering wheel is very good, allowing the car to respond smoothly to changes in position.

However, the suspension of the car feels a little stiff or the suspension of Omoda 5 feels a bit loud when it is carried on a rocky road or past the police sleeping, but for the road, the suspension is safe and comfortable.

Formation And Fuel Consumption

Omoda 5 RZ uses a 1,500 cc 4-cylinder turbo engine which is also used on the Tiggo 7 Pro. This machine is capable of producing speeds of up to 145 dk and 245 Nm torque, combined with CVT transmission which provides fine dental displacement.

This car performance feels responsive, with transmissions that provide smooth and comfortable travel on urban roads.

However, fuel consumption may be a concern, especially when driving on toll roads where testing on traffic jam routes in the city in the afternoon with an average speed of 15-30 km/hour, the Chery Omoda 5 RZ records a figure of 12 km/l.

Meanwhile, for the night test on the toll route with an average speed of 60-90 km/hour, it recorded a figure of 13.6 km/l.

Prices and Competitions

Omoda 5 RZ is sold at a price of Rp404.8 million On The Road Jakarta. In a price that competes with the competitors, Omoda 5 RZ competes with Honda HR-V and Hyundai Creta.

Conclusion

Chery Omoda 5 RZ proves that Chery can present vehicles with premium characteristics. This car offers impressive performance and good control in its class. With some adjustments, Chery can continue to attract the attention of car lovers in Indonesia.
