Ford Ensures Next-generation Mustangs Keep V8 Machines

JAKARTA - Ford Mustang, the legendary icon of the "American Muscle", is always remembered with great admiration by automotive fans for its distinctive US car performance and sound that stimulates adrenaline.

The booming sound of the Mustang comes from an iconic V8 naturally-assisted engine of large dimension. The presence of the V8 engine became inseparable from the Mustang's identity as one of the most recognized muscle cars of all time.

Ford as a company that manufactures Mustangs is aware of the importance of V8 engines in this car, especially when the automotive industry is facing a high-efficiency era of electric vehicles (EVs). Although many other manufacturers are turning to 6-cylinder engines or even plans for electric cars, Ford is committed to maintaining the Mustang's signature powered by V8 engines.

Ford Mustang Global Manager Jim Owens confirmed that his side will continue to maintain the V8 engine in the Mustang as far as possible. Owens realized that Mustang rivals such as Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger had adopted 6-cylinder engines, and would even plan electric cars in the future.

"This is not the first time Camaro and Challenger have not been with us. So there are times when these products are not in this segment, and we continue to be here (with V8 engines)," Owens said as quoted by Drive, Monday, July 31.

Although the Mustang is recognized as unlikely to attract enthusiasts of competing brands of muscular cars, Owens realizes that there are still markets that like cars with V8 engines, both young and more experienced buyers.

"For those who are still interested in the V8 gasoline version of sports car and don't have loyalty yet, we firmly believe that we have the right design, machinery, suspension, and technology for Mustangs," Owens added.

Ford is committed to continuing to invest in maintaining Mustang identities with V8 engines, although they also provide electric car options such as the Mustang Mach-E GT for consumers who want environmentally friendly mobility.

Now entering the seventh generation, the Ford Mustang remains loyal to its trademark, the V8 engine. This iconic model has been introduced as "The Stampede" in the Detroit Auto Show 2022, and in its highest variant, Ford presents a powerful 5.0 liter V8 Coyote. The latest generation Ford Mustang will go on sale in the summer of 2023.
