JAKARTA - Director Seo Sung-won said he wanted to portray the dark side of teenagers to break the clichéd high school drama through the Ultimate Weapon Alice series, offering a story with a genre mix of action, humor and unusual teen romance.

“This drama features action, but at the same time, has a romantic side to it and vice versa. I try to make the story as fun as possible. There must be homely humor and everyday sadness," Seo said during an online press conference in South Korea, quoted by Antara from The Korea Times, Sunday.

The original script was co-written by Lee Byoung-heon ("Extreme Job"/2019) and the director ("I Go through The Summer"). This drama follows the story of Gyeo-wol who hides her identity as a trained assassin when she enters high school.

At school, Gyeo-wol befriends a traumatized student named Yeo-reum, who is often beaten by bullies at school. Gyeo-wol and Yeo-reum become emotionally closer when they are chased by a mysterious criminal organization.

Park Se-wan, who plays the character Gyeo-wol, said he was delighted to be involved with the production of “Ultimate Weapon Alice” which gave him the opportunity to try the action genre for the first time.

“No one offered me the action genre before this one. The (scenes with) guns, knives and blood were all new to me and I really enjoyed every part of it. It was like showing another version of myself," he said.

Meanwhile, Song Geon-hee admitted that he could empathize with the character Yeo-reum he played. Yeo-reum believes that life is meaningless until she meets Gyeo-wol.

“Initially, I thought we had nothing in common. But the more I analyze the character and try to understand Yeo-reum's emotions, I can feel her pain and understand her decisions," he said.

Besides Park Se-wan and Song Geon-hee as the main characters, "Ultimate Weapon Alice" also features other actors, one of which is Kim Sung-oh who plays Mr. Ban, Gyeo-wol's secret guardian.

Kim said he displayed a loving side to the father figure in the series. According to him, this drama is an important story about love, loss, fatherhood, and pain.

"The unconventional romance between two teenagers makes this series so unique and captivating," he said.

Ultimate Weapon Alice consists of eight episodes. Last Friday, this drama premiered on Watcha and will release two episodes every Friday.
