JAKARTA - If you want to decorate your home with bright pink indoor houseplants, you can check out the red schlumbergera or christmas cactus. Schlumbergera is a type of cactus plant originating from the hills in southeastern Brazil.

This genus has six more species under it. Unlike the commonly known cacti, the schlumbergera is a plant that lives in moist and shady environments. As an epiphytic plant, there is a habitat for this plant to be found near tall trees and rocks.

This plant flowers in various months, also depending on the species. Because of its flowers and shape, schlumbergera is quite popular among ornamental plant lovers. The elongated body of the schlumbergera (adds stems and stems) makes this plant look as if it is bowing down as the stem grows longer.

Caring for a schlumbergera is actually a bit tricky. Lack of water and extreme temperature changes can cause flower buds to fall off more quickly. For that, you need to pay attention to six factors, such as;

Soil: Use quality soil rich in humus and other nutrients.

Temperature: The suitable temperature for schlumbergera plants is 16-18 degrees Celsius during the day and 7-13 degrees Celsius at night. After the flowers begin to bloom, 21-24 degrees Celsius during the day and 16-21 degrees Celsius at night. Schlumbergera is best placed in the shade.

Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist. When the flowers begin to bloom, water the schlumbergera frequently.

Light: Place the cactus in an east-facing window for moderate light and direct sunlight.

Fertilization: Apply a fertilizer with a high potassium content every two weeks after buds form.

Transplant: Use a new pot every year after this houseplant blooms.

Do this to make schlumbergera blooms quickly

Keep the plant cool with a temperature of no more than 10 degrees Celsius before the blooming period. Water the houseplants to keep the soil moist. When new shoots appear, you can place the plant in an environment with a temperature between 12 to 18 Celsius.

Then, alternately place the plant for 10 hours in a place with lots of light and 14 hours away from the sun. Do this for four to six weeks before buds appear. When the buds appear, put the plant to a warmer temperature. The plants will bloom in about six weeks.
