Minister Of Agriculture Amran: South Kalimantan Has A Rice Production Potential Of Up To 5 Million Tons Per Year

JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman said that South Kalimantan Province has the potential to produce up to 5 million tons of rice per year, because productive agricultural land in this area reaches a total of 500 thousand hectares.

"This is also in line with the optimization of land in South Kalimantan last year as much as 80,000 hectares, and as of this year it has reached 120 thousand hectares (Ha)," said the Minister of Agriculture during a coordination meeting to accelerate land optimization and rice fields printing activities towards Indonesia self-sufficiency in food in South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan in Banjarmasin, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 31.

According to him, productive agricultural land in South Kalimantan Province, which totals 500 thousand hectares, if treated properly, can produce 5 million tons of production.

"This is only at times 10 tons per hectare. This means that the national rice shortage can be covered from South Kalimantan," he said.

Therefore, he said, South Kalimantan Province is one of the pillars of national food.

"I have conveyed to the President that South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan support national food," he said.

Moreover, in South Kalimantan Province in 2025, Amran said, it was included in the national rice field printing program, which covers an area of 75 thousand hectares.

"Therefore, this area is a big concern for the President, we will come here almost every Sunday to ensure that the food self-sufficiency program in South Kalimantan can be realized," he said.

He asked all parties to join hands to realize the noble ideals of this country, with the spirit of the Red and White.

In fact, he said, the budget for realizing national food self-sufficiency was significantly increased, from IDR 6.9 trillion in 2024 to IDR 29 trillion in 2025.

"Because in every presidential speech, you must be self-sufficient in food in the shortest possible time," he said.

He is also grateful that food production in 2024 can be good, where the initial plan is to import 10 million tons, only 3 million tons.

"We have a deficit of 5 million tons this year, Alhamdulillah, until tonight it is only 500 thousand tons, this is because of the hard work of all of us," he said.

He is optimistic that with a massive movement for this agricultural program, food self-sufficiency will be realized.
