JAKARTA - The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) revealed that hotel occupancy rates in Jakarta during the 2025 Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays tend to be lower than usual days.

"Jakarta has always experienced a decrease in occupancy during the Nataru holiday," said PHRI General Chair Hariyadi BS Sukamdani, in a statement in Jakarta, Thursday.

On the other hand, in other big cities, especially tourist destinations, hotel occupancy rates have actually increased. Some of these cities include Bandung, Yogyakarta, Solo, and Bali.

Hariyadi explained that the average hotel occupancy in Jakarta during the Nataru holiday only ranged from 20 to 30 percent, because Jakarta was not the main tourist destination.

He added that when compared to weekdays, hotel occupancy rates in Jakarta are much higher, which is more than 70 percent of the total available rooms.

"Surabaya and Jakarta have the same pattern, where hotel occupancy rates tend to be low during holidays," he said.

Hariyadi also mentioned that in big cities that are tourist destinations, such as Bandung, Yogyakarta, Solo, and Bali, hotel occupancy rates are higher, with an average of 70 to 90 percent.

According to him, in areas that have major tourist attractions, hotel occupancy rates can reach 90 percent, while in areas that are further away from tourist attractions or city centers, the average occupancy is around 70 percent.

Especially in Yogyakarta and Bali, Hariyadi added that there was a significant increase in the occupancy rate. This is due to the ease of access to the two areas, either through new toll roads in Yogyakarta or relatively affordable aircraft ticket rates for Bali.

"After the functional toll road, Yogyakarta experienced a surge in visitors, while Bali also benefited from the stable price of aircraft tickets," he said.
