JAKARTA - eFishery through eFishery foundation collaborates with forums to increase fish consumption (Forikan) and nutritionists from the West Java Provincial Health Office to hold a Fish Food Day Campaign to educate the importance of consuming fish in preventing stunting.
"The eFishery Foundation continues to strive to affirm the company's commitment to developing the quality of life of the community, especially for those involved and in the eFishery ecosystem. We always strive to realize one of the eFishery missions, namely providing quality world food needs through acultural products," said Head of Regulatory and Government Affairs eFishery Luciana Dita Chandra Murni in a written statement received by VOI, Wednesday, November 8.
Based on existing data, the Indonesian people's fish consumption rate is only around 56 kg per capita.
This figure is still below the target of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) which raises the national fish consumption target to 61.02 kg per capita.
The low consumption of fish can have a negative impact on public health, especially in terms of adequacy in protein intake and other important nutrients, one of which is stunting for children.
Stunting is a condition of failure to grow in children caused by chronic malnutrition. Lack of nutritional intake, including protein, in child growth can have an impact on non-optimal physical and mental development.
"Through this activity, we want to invite the public to consume more fish, because fish are a source of protein that is easy to obtain, affordable, and rich in good nutrition to prevent stunting," said Luciana.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the West Java Provincial Forum, Herni Herdiani, appreciated the campaign initiative to welcome National Fish Day by the eFishery Foundation.
Herni assessed that so far people have not received education that there are sources of good and affordable nutrition, namely fish.
"One of the main goals of the initiation carried out by the eFishery Foundation is to invite and educate the public in understanding the importance of fish consumption and the benefits of fishery products, so as to increase fish consumption at the regional level," he said.
According to him, public awareness of the benefits of fishery products as a source of high quality protein should be a priority for all stakeholders in an effort to resolve stunting issues as a priority issue and provide periodic education to the public.
Therefore, said Herni, synergy is needed from various parties to support government policies in increasing fish consumption and reducing stunting rates.
"Hopefully this Fish Eating Day activity with eFishery can be carried out in a sustainable and equitable manner throughout the province of West Java," he concluded.
