JAKARTA - PT KCI or KAI Commuter and PT INKA (Persero) recently signed a 19 Electric Rail Trainset (KRL) Retrofit Cooperation Contract on Friday, November 3.

KCI Corporate Secretary, Anne Purba ensures that during the retrofit KRL procurement process it will not reduce the frequency of train travel operations. It is known that KAI Commuter will send four series of trains that will be carried out by the Retrofit process to PT INKA and will take 13 to 15 months.

"Indeed, for manintenance and operational needs, there is a recomposition, engineering of operating patterns, then on holidays there are fewer passengers, we will engineer the pattern of operation," Anne told the media, Monday, November 6.

Anne added, KCI is also gradually increasing speed at KRL on several routes from the previous 70 km per hour to 80 to 90 km per hour. The increase in speed is carried out on the Bogor-Manggarai and Manggarai-Batu Ceper tracks.

"Why do we want to speed things up? Surely the waiting time that we focus on is smaller, then the hideway (distance between trains) must be smaller," said Anne.

Anne further explained, in the process of retrofitting the KRL facilities, KAI Commuter has also obtained permits from the regulator. An assessment related to the specifications of retrofitting technology has also been determined through FGD activities with related parties. KAI Commuter will also be ready to send a series of trains that will be carried out in the retrofit process at PT INKA (Persero).

Acceleration in the retrofitting process between KAI Commuter and PT INKA (Persero) also continues.

"It is hoped that these acceleration efforts can meet the needs of the number of facilities in service to their users which are predicted to continue to increase in line with the current integration between modes," he said.

Previously, KAI Commuter and PT INKA had also signed the last 16 procurement contract for the new KRL set in March 2023.
