JAKARTA - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) stated that it supports the government's move to ask TikTok to comply with the regulations that have been set if it wants to apply for an e-commerce license in Indonesia.

"We fully support the government. I have mentioned earlier, every company that will operate in Indonesia must comply with regulations. That is what we ask for," said the Daily Acting Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi, quoted from ANTARA, Monday, October 30.

Yukki said that the commitment of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to protect the sustainability of MSMEs had been conveyed directly to the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki.

According to him, it is unfair if only local entrepreneurs are burdened with the obligation to fulfill various regulations to be able to do business. Meanwhile, on the one hand, foreign entrepreneurs can easily do business and reap coffers in Indonesia.

"This is what we continue to fight for. Especially for those who do not have legality in this republic, please try well but also open legality. There they only open representatives here, in my opinion it's not healthy," he said.

Efforts to support MSMEs to advance to class, continued Yukki, are not only shown by supporting policies set by the government.

Kadin Indonesia has committed to having a significant impact through a series of work programs that have been set at the 2022 Rapimnas, including advanced MSMEs, increasing international collaboration and strengthening organizations.

To date, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has succeeded in implementing a number of programs to increase the competitiveness of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in real terms.

Mariki detailed that the support was realized through the 2023 Catalogue Expo and Forum (ICEF) Indonesia Exhibition which was held with the Government Goods/Services Procurement Policy Institute (LKPP), which encourages the use of products and local services through digitalization and procurement systems with e-catalog.

In addition, with the implementation of Trade Expo Indonesia, Kadin displayed superior Indonesian products while facilitating business meetings to attract investment and encourage exports.

"In fact, through the WikiExport Japan program, Kadin has connected more than 200 MSMEs with Japanese business people, and generated exports worth IDR 10 billion last August," added Yukki.

For your information, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew has submitted a request to meet with President Joko Widodo after the Indonesian government decided to close the TikTok Shop.

However, President Jokowi said that Shou Zi Chew first met with Coordinating Minister for SMEs Teten Masduki to discuss the continuation of the fate of TikTok Shop in Indonesia.

Minister Teten said TikTok Shop to do business again in Indonesia must open its own platform which is no longer combined with social media platforms.

Another option is TikTok investing in e-commerce platforms in Indonesia.
