Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono said the construction of the Sei Selayur Central Domestic Waste Management System (SPALDT) in Palembang, South Sumatra was an example of good collaboration between the central, regional governments and friendly countries.

"The grants from the Australian Government of around Rp. 690 billion were used to build Wastewater Management Installations (IPAL) to serve 120.000 people, the central government through the APBN worth Rp. 632 billion was used to build pipelines up to tertiary networks," Basuki said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, October 26.

The collaboration also involved the South Sumatra Provincial Government and the Palembang City Government which built a home connection network (SR) including land provision.

According to Basuki, the construction of the Palembang City SPALDT is part of the Palembang City Sewerage Project (PCSP) program.

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams said the construction of the Wastewater Processing Installation (IPAL) is a concrete example of the cooperation between the Government of Australia and Indonesia in infrastructure development partnerships.

"The presence of the President at today's event shows a strong cooperation commitment between the Government of Indonesia and Australia," said Penny.

Director General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR Diana Kusumastuti said that currently the Palembang City Sanitation Project (PCSP) work package has been completed, namely the B2 A - main pipeline and retriculation package which was built with APBN funds by contractor PT Adhi Karya worth IDR 236 billion.

As for the A2 package, the construction of Domestic Waste Management Installation (IPALD) and Pump Station A, which was built with an Australian Government grant of IDR 455 billion and a package of B2 B - the main pipeline and retrimination network built with APBN funds worth IDR 191 billion, is targeted for completion in December 2023.

President Jokowi, at the inauguration, appreciated SPALDT Sei Selayur in Palembang City which can improve public health and environmental quality, especially in the Musi River.

"We know that the Musi River is very important for people in South Sumatra Province, especially in Palembang City. Therefore, the existence of this domestic waste water management system is very important to reduce pollution in the Musi River, which can endanger the health of the people of Palembang City and reduce environmental quality," said President Jokowi.
