JAKARTA - Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Yudo Dwinanda Priaadi revealed that the realization of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Indonesia is increasing from year to year.
It was recorded that in 2022 Indonesia succeeded in reducing emissions to 118.2 million tons and the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) of 116 million tons.
"We have now bonused about 2 million tons of CO2. Hopefully it can be more and we have bonused two million tons. we want one day to be able to trade on the carbon market because we do better than our target," said Yudo in his remarks at Tripatra Sustainable Engineering, Friday, October 13.
He detailed that in 2022 the energy sector also succeeded in reducing GRK emissions by 91.5 million tons of CO2e which were carried out through energy efficiency mitigation, EBT, low carbon fuel, use of clean technology and other activities. He explained that climate change is a challenge that is a global concern.
All countries are committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and carrying out sustainable development to contribute more to climate change management support. Indonesia has conveyed its commitment through ENDC with the target of reducing emissions from 29 percent to 32 percent by 2030 compared to the Business as Usual (BAU) scenario.
"The contribution of the energy sector increased from 314 million tons of CO2 to 358 million tons of CO2. So there was an update on NDC but Indonesia used the term Enhanced NDC because we increased our ambition to reduce emissions," Yudo continued.

In line with the commitment and ambition in reducing GRK emissions, Yudo continued, Indonesia also conveyed plans to achieve NZE by 2060 or sooner.
"This is faster if we get support in two ways. First, technology. We do need new technology, better technology, more efficient, more productive and lastly, don't forget because we are still developing countries we need affordable energy," explained Yudo.
The second is through financial investment. Yudo revealed that Indonesia needs to invite investment related to capacity with various kinds of EBT projects including energy efficiency.
