JAKARTA - Provincial promotive efforts consistently continue to be carried out by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan as a form of commitment in reducing the number of work accidents. This is because until the end of August BPJS Ketenagakerjaan recorded that there were 239 thousand claims in work accidents with a total nominal value of Rp1.97 trillion.
Located at Usman Harun Sport Center Jakarta, BPJS Employment Service Director Roswita Nilakurnia officially opened the 2023 BPJS Employment Promotive and Preventive activities which were simultaneously also carried out in 10 other regions in Indonesia.
"BPJS Ketenagakerjaan as one of the state representation agencies, contributes to helping, supporting and encouraging employers to carry out K3 in a sustainable manner which in turn can become a culture in the work environment so that the number of work accidents can be minimized," said Roswita, quoted Wednesday, October 11.
For the DKI Jakarta area, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan in collaboration with Korlantas Polri held a certified safety riding and safety driving for 330 participants from several companies that had orderly registered all of their workers as BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participants and were highly committed to the implementation of K3.
Meanwhile, in other areas, preventive promotive assistance is also provided in the form of multivitamin assistance for female workers, provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Plantation Workers, certified K3 training and adjustment of a disability-friendly work environment.
Types of preventive promotive activities distributed to all BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Regional Offices are determined based on the level of work accidents that occur in several business sectors in accordance with the characteristics of each operational area in each region.
Roswita detailed that the majority of work accidents occurred in the workplace, which amounted to 56 percent. Meanwhile, another 33 percent occurred in traffic, and the remaining 9 percent outside the workplace. Although not the largest, traffic accidents have a high level of seismicity or severity, of which 6 to 9 percent of victims died.
Meanwhile, when viewed from the working sector, this year plantations are still the highest contributor to work accidents nationally. Unfortunately, the protection of workers in this sector can be said to be not optimal, namely 20 percent of the total workforce.
This is what encourages BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to cooperate with the Ministry of Manpower and ILO to provide assistance and measure in detail the impact of preventive promotive program interventions, especially in the plantation sector.
"The high number of work accidents can cause losses to various parties. Workers and their families will lose part or all of their income. Meanwhile, the company will suffer losses due to reduced worker productivity. Therefore, it requires an active role from all parties, including the government, to support the implementation of this promotive and preventive activity," added Roswita.
Roswita added that preventive promotive activities have been carried out by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan since 2019. In 2022, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan through its 11 Regional Offices has succeeded in handing over 31,977 preventive promotive assistance in the form: Providing Nutrition Food Materials, General K3 Training, Employment Norm Cadre Training (KNK) and Provision of Construction Services or Plantation.
He hopes that this activity will be able to realize synergy and harmonization between the government, employers and workers in realizing the welfare of workers.

"In the future BPJS Ketenagakerjaan will continue to evaluate and improve the implementation of preventive promotive activities needed by workers so that the results will be of higher quality and useful for increasing productivity and worker welfare," concluded Roswita.
Meanwhile, Haryani Rotua Melasari, Head of the Jakarta Cilincing Employment BPJS Branch Office, said that at every opportunity, both when handing over compensation for the Benefits of Work Accident Insurance (JKK) and through Provincial Prototive and National K3 Month Commemoration activities held annually by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, always reminded the assisted companies and BPJS Employment participants to carry out K3 culture (Security and Work Health).
"According to him, disciplining the K3 culture can minimize cases of work accidents on the highway and in the work environment," he explained.
