JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) targets the construction of the Jatiluhur I Regional Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) in West Java Province to be completed in 2024. As for August 2023, the progress of SPAM Jatiluhur I's physical work has reached 47.47 percent.

"Hopefully, before October 2024, it can be completed to support the availability of water in Jakarta and its surroundings. The construction of the Jatiluhur I Regional SPAM consists of an upstream system and a downstream system. The upstream system is implemented through the Government Cooperation and Business Entity (PPP) scheme with its scope of activities including the construction of an intake, transmission pipeline, water treatment installation (IPA), and a main distribution network to an offtake point.

This SPAM has two Water Processing Installations (IPA) located in Cibeet and Bekasi, West Java.

The Jatiluhur Regional SPAM project, which began in January 2022, was initiated by the Consortium PT Jaya Konstruksi Manggala Pratama Tbk-PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk.-PT Tirta Gemah Ripah with a working period of 30 years.

Diana said, in fulfilling the availability of clean water in the Jakarta area, the Jatiluhur I SPAM was supported by 3 other SPAM projects, namely the Karian-Serpong Regional SPAM with an allocation for DKI Jakarta of 3,200 liters per second, which is currently in the stage of fulfilling the preliminary requirements and is targeted to be carried out financial close by the end of 2023.

Then, SPAM Juanda / SPAM Jatiluhur II with an allocation for DKI Jakarta with 2,620 liters per second, which is currently in the stage of preparing a feasibility study. Furthermore, SPAM Buaran has a capacity of 3,000 liters per second, which is currently under construction.

"I hope that when SPAM Jatiluhur I is finished, SPAM Jatiluhur II is finished, SPAM Karian-Serpong is finished, and SPAM Buaran is finished, people in Jakarta do not use ground water, they can really use this surface water," he added.
