PURWAKARTA - Lenzing Group through its subsidiary PT South Pacific Viscose launched the Lenzing Ecovero product. This product has viscose fibers that have Ecolabel EU certification.

President Director of PT South Pacific Viscose Sri Aditia said this step was taken apart from being a strategy to compete with other textile actors, as well as to help Lenzing meet increasing demand among environmentally caring consumers.

This viscose textile product has lower environmental waste. Along with this, Lenzing has also succeeded in transforming its factory in Indonesia with reduced sulfur emissions and traces of CO2 and is also expected to contribute to reducing water waste.

"By producing the Lenzing Ecovero fiber for textile and Veocel Viscose applications for Ecolabel-certified non-woven applications, we want to be able to contribute to the cleaner and greener textile industry while meeting the demands of consumers who care about the environment," Sri Aditia said in Purwakarta, Thursday, September 21.

Furthermore, Sri Aditia said, her party is now ready to receive orders for Lenzing Ecovero fiber both for exports and domestic customers.

He continued, the conversion of the Purwakarta plant adjacent to its value chain partners in Asia Pacific allows for more responsible fiber viscose transportation, in large quantities, to have shorter distances and waiting times. Thus reducing the carbon footprint of the textile supply chain as a whole when meeting the needs of brands and consumer retailers in Asia.

Produced by the use of lower fossil and water energy by up to 50 percent compared to viscose in general and having an internationally recognized EU Eclabel certification, viscose fiber with the Lenzing Ecovero brand has been used in women for fashion and knitted clothing products such as tops, dresses, t-shirts, and style-filled loungewear.

"The Asia Pacific region represents many potentials and growth opportunities for us. As brands and retailers continue to re-configurate over their manufacturing networks, this area has become the center of all supply chain components, ranging from spinning, weaving, juxtaposing to garment makers and procurement offices," said Florian Heubrandner, Executive Vice President of Global Textiles Business Lenzing AG.

The launch of this product is also in line with Lenzing's goal of reducing CO2 emissions per tonne of products across the group by 50 percent by 2030, and achieving neutral production of CO2 by 2050.

"This converted plant manages to reduce CO2 emissions to around 130,000 tons each year. An important factor that allows Lenzing to achieve this pioneering transformation is the conversion from fossil-based energy to geothermal energy at the plant," said Florian.
