JAKARTA - PT Krakatau Daya Listrik (KDL), a subsidiary of Chandra Asri Group in the majority infrastructure sector, has succeeded in developing a solar panel generation business with four different mechanisms as an effort to provide new and renewable energy solutions (EBT).

The company has successfully installed solar panels in various projects, including industry and retail, with a total renewable new energy electricity capacity of 958 kWp and is targeted for the PLTS (Symal Power Plant) project to be carried out to reach 3 MWp in 2023.

The success of the construction of this solar panel, both for customers and in their own business areas, can save up to 40 percent of electricity use per year, and reduce carbon emissions to reach 561 tons of CO2/year. This innovation is one of KDL's efforts to contribute to the government's efforts to achieve the new and renewable energy target in accordance with Presidential Regulation (PERPRES) Number 112 of 2022.

"We are committed to providing solutions in providing more environmentally friendly electrical energy through various innovations. With the development of four KDL solar panels, we have provided new renewable electric energy solutions for industries and retail such as housing as well as supporting the Government in encouraging the use of renewable energy," said Nandang Hariana, President Director of Krakatau Daya Listrik, in his statement, Sunday, September 17.

KDL has four mechanisms in installing solar panels, including:

- Solar On Grid System integrates solar panels with power grids, allowing the generated energy to be channeled directly through the power grid without requiring batteries as backup storage.

- Solar Off Grid System operates independently without connection to the power grid, requiring battery deep energy storage for use based on battery capacity.

- On Grid with Battery Back-Up System, where solar panels flow energy into the power grid and store excess energy in the battery as a backup when the sun does not shine.

- Solar Hybrid System combines various energy sources to meet the electrical needs of the building and allows integration between different systems. With these various options, KDL can provide solutions for installing solar panels that suit customer needs.

KDL's flagship project includes the Rooftop Photovoltaic (PV) installation which can also be used in housing and the Ground-Mounted PV and Floating systems. The name of this solar panel refers to the installation location, namely solar panels on rooftops, ground (land), and floats.

Internally, the Company has succeeded in installing solar panels in several important locations, such as the 150 kV Main Transfer Station building, parking area, and the TMS workshop area, with a total capacity of more than 400 kWp. Externally, the Company has contributed through Rooftop Photovoltaic (PV) at PT Krakatau Steel Technology Building and PT Krakatau Pipe Industries Coil Warehouse.

The company also plans to start the Floating PV project in the Krenseng Reservoir of PT Krakatau Tirta Industri, which will begin construction for Phase 1 development in 2024 with a capacity of 9.6 MWp and will continue to the next stage until a total of 32 MWp. All of these initiatives reflect KDL's commitment to contribute to the development of new renewable energy sources that are sustainable and play a role in reducing environmental impacts.

"This renewable energy source will later become the main choice for the generating industry because of its sustainable nature. Renewable energy relies on unlimited natural resources, such as sunlight for PLTS. This shows that renewable energy has a long-term advantage in maintaining the availability of sustainable energy sources. Krakatau Electricity is committed to constantly innovating providing comprehensive solutions for new and renewable energy," concluded Nandang.

Chandra Asri has acquired a KDL in early 2023 of 70 percent which affirms Chandra Asri's commitment to excel in business by widening the type of business in the infrastructure sector. This will certainly bring benefits to stakeholders and also support the government's target of achieving the New Renewable Energy target.
