JAKARTA - The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) signed an MoU on cooperation with South Korea to strengthen digital transformation.

The signing of the MoU was carried out by the Head of the Industrial Human Resources Education and Training Center (Pusdiklat), Arnes Lukman, who represented the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) of the Ministry of Industry, Masrokhan, and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) of the Republic of Korea.

"Because of the wide opportunities for benefits from this collaboration, we hope that after signing the MoU we can discuss plans for implementing activities together," said Arnes in a written statement in Jakarta, on Sunday, September 10.

Arnes added, currently South Korea is ranked seventh in investment realization in Indonesia in the January-September 2022 period, namely USD 1.66 billion with a total of 4,016 projects.

Therefore, the two state leaders agreed to upgrade the status of the partnership to a special strategic partnership.

"Of course, this investment makes a big contribution to industrial development and job creation in Indonesia," he said.

There are a number of cooperation programs that will be implemented, namely information exchange, promotion of business and technology exchanges, transfer of knowledge including sending experts, encouraging digital transformation in the manufacturing industry, encouraging the use of information and computer technology (ICT) in educational units, and holding seminars, workshops, and joint events in areas of mutual interest.

"NIPA itself is trying to increase the use of information and communication technology so that it can contribute to increasing economic growth," said Arnes.

For information, NIPA itself is a South Korean government organization under the National Research Council (NRC) which oversees the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI) Korea.

Previously, the Ministry of Industry had collaborated with STEPI in five sectors, namely electric vehicles, digital transformation, digital startup, smart factory, and AR/VR.
