Erick Thohir Pede Indonesia Becomes A Data Center Player, Here's How

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir is optimistic that Indonesia can become the largest data center player in ASEAN.

This is in line with 73 potential projects whose value reaches 17.8 billion from the ASEAN Summit.

Erick said, the development of this data center can be done through PT Telkom Indonesia. According to Erick, Telkom is investing in the sector.

"We focus on the four fields that we are pushing, for example, how, like Telkom is investing optimally to ensure our data center, because our digital economy will be the largest in Southeast Asia," he said after the opening of the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific, at the Hotel Mulia, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 5.

For this reason, Erick encourages SOEs to cooperate with partners in Southeast Asia.

With this collaboration, Erick hopes that Indonesia will become a large data center player in Southeast Asia.

"One of them is how Partnership is Telkom and Telkomsel to partners in Southeast Asia, but we also encourage us to become one of the big Data Center players in Southeast Asia," he said.

According to Erick, this data center needs to be prepared. Because, if not, it will be a problem in the future. He also doesn't want Indonesia to just become a market.

"These things come back so that we don't just become a market, but instead how can our big market use it to also return to us competing globally," he explained.

"Because the future goal of SOEs is for 2024-2034, we encourage more and more state-owned companies to compete globally. Now this is what we encourage," he continued.
