Visiting Indonesia, Australia Utus 130 Delegations Carry Out Investment And Trade Missions

JAKARTA - The Western Australian government sent 130 delegations to Indonesia to carry out investment and trade missions.

Premier, Minister for State and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade, Roger Cook said, the main focus of this mission is on the results of investment and trade in the energy transition, creative industry and the digital economy, international education, primary industry and tourism.

"It is dubbed a big mission because the number of delegates involved has never happened before, this mission has started Jakarta, and involves more than 130 important representatives of the Government and the business world, including three members of Cook's cabinet," Cook said in remarks quoted Monday, September 4.

Furthermore, he explained, if the Indonesia Connect Roadshow provides a platform to promote Western Australia (WA) as recognized and trusted partners, as well as opportunities for businesses in WA to engage in trade, investment and cultural exchange.

The roadshow starts in Jakarta with the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit organized by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN).

Cook explained that this Summit will promote collaboration opportunities in the energy sector.

The mission in Jakarta will also include Energy Roundtable with KADIN, which will be held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit.

This will focus on developing a mineral and battery industry supply chain that is of added value, resilient and sustainable in both regions.

"This Foundtable follows up on an action plan related to important minerals signed during President Joko Widodo's visit to Sydney in July," he said.

He explained that WA's relationship with Indonesia was the main economic driver for his party because WA exported goods to Indonesia worth USD 3.8 billion in 2022.

This amount is above the annual average of $ 2.3 billion over the past 10 years.

In addition, WA also contributed a quarter of Australia's total trade in goods with Indonesia by 2022.

"Indonesia is an important trading partner of WA, with a trade value of USD 4.6 billion in Australian goods in 2022 and petroleum exports to Indonesia increasing 16 percent to USD 1.2 billion in 2022," he explained.

"Indonesia is a recognized and trusted partner and therefore it is important for us to find new ways to deepen our relationship that provides investment opportunities and local jobs for WA residents," Cook concluded.
