JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono revealed that the PUPR Ministry is currently looking for the right housing financing scheme for the millennial generation.

"We are looking for the right formulation or housing financing scheme for the millennial generation," Basuki said at the National Housing Day Commemoration Peak Night (Hapernas) at the PUPR Ministry Auditorium, Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Friday, September 1.

Basuki said that currently there are some millennial generations who want to have the first residence.

"If there is no special scheme, the millennial generation will find it difficult to have a livable house," he said.

Basuki hopes that the installments for buying houses for millennials will be in the range below Rp. 3 million, besides that, the installment interest is also expected to be reduced by below 8 percent.

"Now can the government subsidize the installment interest? This is of course being discussed between the Ministry of PUPR and the Ministry of Finance," he said.

The Ministry of PUPR together with stakeholders in the housing sector always carries out Hapernas Commemoration activities every August.

Basuki Hadimuljono stated that commemorating National Housing Day certainly could not be separated from the history of housing in Indonesia. Hapernas originated from the Healthy People's Housing Congress which was opened by the First Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr Muhammad Hatta or Bung Hatta on August 25, 1950.

Bung Hatta conveyed one important quote that needs to be remembered together, among others, the aspirations for the implementation of people's housing needs are not impossible if implemented truly with full confidence.

The spirit of Mr. Muhammad Hatta was then continued with the Declaration of National Housing Day in 2008. This declaration is a form of enthusiasm and inspiration from all stakeholders of housing and settlements to work harder in building the nation.

The enthusiasm and aspiration to realize the implementation of the housing needs of the people is still a common spirit. Therefore, the Commemoration of National Housing Day is a momentum and a reminder for all parties to stay focused on carrying out the construction of decent housing for all Indonesian people.

As mandated in the 1945 Constitution (UUD) article 28, which states that everyone has the right to live in prosperity and physically, to live in a good and healthy environment.
